Event Description

Is the idea of developing a course on your own overwhelming and you just don’t know where to start? Do you want to learn how to incorporate inclusive teaching strategies into your course design? In this workshop, using backwards design and universal design for learning (UDL) techniques, you will decide on appropriate learning objectives, assessments, and strategically select course content. While we will briefly review backwards design and Bloom’s taxonomy, we hope that participants will have foundational knowledge in these pedagogical techniques. Participants should prepare for the workshop’s first session by brainstorming an idea for a course they would be interested in designing and considering common learning objectives within that discipline; we will spend time in the workshop concretely developing these ideas. This two-part workshop will give you a chance to share your concerns, collaborate with others, and come away with the structure of a course you will (or would like to) teach. For more information, contact Mac Crite (mac.crite@yale.edu) and Cat Slowik (catherine.slowik@yale.edu). This workshop will be held online via Zoom.
