ATW: Preparing and Delivering an Effective Lecture

Event Description

How does the lecture fit into the current landscape of teaching strategies? How does it relate to active learning as a central tenet of effective teaching? Lecturing is still a widely practiced method of teaching, but has undergone a revolution. The best aspects of lecturing—its ability to clarify concepts, create vivid narrative explanations, and model extended critical thinking—remain, but are mixed with practices that encourage students to reflect on their learning and truly acquire knowledge, rather than passively receiving it. This workshop includes practical strategies to create and deliver engaging lectures. For more information, email Suzanne Young (Suzanne.young@yale.edu) or Nick Fisk (jeffrey.fisk@yale.edu).
