ATW: Writing Across the Disciplines

Event Description

Whether in the hard sciences, the humanities, or social sciences, writing is the primary way that scholars create new knowledge and communicate their ideas. In this workshop, we will offer our participants strategies for incorporating regular writing practice into their lesson plans, making assessment an opportunity for growth, and helping students understand the standards and norms of writing within their discipline. We will also discuss the challenges inherent in communicating discipline-specific expectations for writing to students new to a particular subject area or working in several disciplines at once. Finally, we analyze ways that other parts of classes and sections can become an occasion to discuss good writing.
