Choosing a Dissertation Topic in the Humanities & Social Sciences

Event Description

Choosing a dissertation topic in the humanities can be a stressful process, as you ponder numerous issues within your field and try to anticipate all possible factors affecting your future career in academia. Are you unsure of what to write about, or even how to begin the process of narrowing down your possible ideas? Are you wondering how to frame your interests? Are you trying to work on an interdisciplinary topic that crosses traditional boundaries? Learn about what makes a good topic and how to find it. There will be a Q&A at the end and you will hear from a panel of advance-stage Yale PhD candidates representing various humanities departments about their experiences with choosing, and sticking with (or not), their initial topics. We’ll leave plenty of time for questions, so come prepared.

Intended Audience: GSAS PhD and Masters students in the Humanities
