This four-part workshop series introduces core pedagogical principles and explores how to apply these to teaching courses in music. Geared toward first-time instructors and veterans alike, we will cover a wide range of topics, including developing concrete lesson plans, facilitating an inclusive and productive class discussion, and utilizing effective means of assessment, grounded in the specific challenges of teaching music courses. We will pay specific attention to the different skills necessary for musicology/ethnomusicology courses and theory courses (especially for PTAIs), and participants will be encouraged to bring in their own teaching experiences for workshopping and discussion. In addition, this workshop will provide a space for participants to discuss their own teaching and craft language around pedagogy, which will ultimately be useful for the job-market and beyond.
