Event Description

This four-part workshop series introduces core pedagogical principles and explores how they apply to teaching courses in music. Geared toward first-time instructors and veterans alike, the series will cover a wide range of topics, with a particular emphasis on inclusivity and antiracist/antisexist pedagogy and reframing the discipline. Topics will include lesson planning, facilitating inclusive and productive class discussions, and utilizing effective means of assessment. Our discussions will be grounded in the specific challenges of teaching music courses, and we will pay close attention to the different skills necessary for musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory courses. Participants will be encouraged to bring in their own teaching experiences for workshopping and discussion, and will have the opportunity put the the ideas we discuss into practice through targeted “microteaching” activities. Workshops will take place on 9/3, 9/10, 9/17, and 9/24. For more information contact Cat Slowik (catherine.slowik@yale.edu).
