Event Description

Is this your first time teaching a class or section in the social sciences? Are you looking for a community with whom to reflect on how to teach equitably and sustainably through an ongoing pandemic? ? This workshop is designed to help new and returning TFs in the social sciences build confidence in the classroom, develop concrete pedagogical and critical reflection skills about their teaching practice, and share strategies for equitable and effective teaching in the social sciences. In our first session, we will introduce participants to the basics of lesson planning and design and discuss strategies for establishing shared norms and expectations. Later sessions will focus on creating supportive and equitable classroom environments, fostering student engagement and active learning, and soliciting and giving feedback and assessment. Throughout, we’ll make time to workshop and troubleshoot questions and issues that arise in participants’ own teaching. Please don’t hesitate to email Mallory Ellingson (mallory.ellingson@yale.edu) or Joy Wang (joy.wang@yale.edu) for more information, or with any questions or concerns.

This four-part workshop series takes place in person on 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, and 10/12.
