Writing Your Diversity Statement MLA Webinar

Event Description

This webinar will offer strategies on how to write a diversity statement that both rings true and is effective when you are writing your job applications. We will address the following: What is a diversity statement? What differentiates it from a personal statement? How might a committee use a diversity statement to evaluate an applicant’s qualifications and assets? Should you always write one if asked? By working through clear definitions, reflective activities, and examples from the field, this webinar will help you consider how your professional and personal experiences have prepared you to contribute to diversity and equity measures in institutions of higher learning—and in your next job!

The content of this webinar was created by members of the MLA’s Committee on the Status of Graduate Students in the Humanities. The views expressed are those of the presenters and do not necessarily reflect those of the MLA.

Julia Istomina is assistant director of the Graduate Writing Lab at the Yale Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, where she manages the programming of workshops, panel events, and writing groups and teaches workshops on topics relevant to graduate and professional communication.
