ATW: Inclusive Assessment
Are you sometimes left stumped at the end of the semester, trying to figure out what grade your students deserve? Do you want to reward deep engagement with the class, while at the same time acknowledging that students have different comfort levels with verbal engagement? Do you want to measure students’ mastery of content while minimizing the impact of issues like test anxiety? This workshop will explore strategies aimed at helping you think about assessing class participation and content mastery at all moments of the course– what you say on the first day, how you keep track over the course of the semester, and the final determination of the course grade. Our goal will be to suggest concrete actions that you can take immediately to improve the fairness and suitability of your grading scheme.
