Preparing for Oral Exams in History Panel Event

Event Description

How does the comprehensive exam process in history work? What does the process include? How do you compile a reading list? What can you expect and how can you prepare for fielding questions from the Committee during the orals defense itself? This panel is an opportunity for upper-year history doctoral students to share their experiences preparing for comprehensive examinations with first and second-year students. Panelists will discuss strategies for building field lists and approaching reading and note-taking, along with general advice for the written components and the oral examination day. This panel event is co-sponsored by The Andrews Society and The Graduate Writing Lab.

A light lunch will be served. Intended Audience: This event is geared towards Ph.D. students at the History Department, but other students from related fields are welcome to join.
