Event Description

Are you heading off to a summer associate job, internship, or clerkship? If so, this interactive workshop series is for you! We will be reviewing the key components of legal writing, including: memo writing; brief writing; and letters and emails to clients and other attorneys. Don’t miss this opportunity to refresh your legal writing skills so you are ready to hit the ground running and impress your summer employer! Part 1 (Apr. 14th): Writing the Legal Memo. Join us for this skills-based workshop to refresh your legal memo writing skills. We will address the memo’s purpose, audience, format, and tone. We will also engage in exercises applying principles of legal memo writing, including identifying the issue, articulating key facts, and applying the relevant law.
Part 2 (April21st): Writing the Appellate Brief
In this interactive workshop, we will review the purpose and audience for an appellate court legal brief. We’ll discuss persuasive writing techniques for each section of the brief, as well as developing an argument. We will also engage in exercises to practice your advocacy skills.
Part 3: (April 28th) Emails & Letters in Legal Practice
Practitioners are often required to draft emails, letters to clients, demand letters, and other documents. In this workshop, we will review principles for writing emails and letters in legal practice, including citation requirements, tone, and protection of attorney-client confidentiality.
