Event Description

Are you returning to academia after a break? Is one of your goals this year to improve your academic writing? If so, we invite you to start the semester strong by attending the GWL’s four-part series on Honing Your Academic Writing Skills. In this series, we will cover: critically reading scholarly works and effectively taking notes; synthesizing your scholarly research; building your argument; and trimming and clarifying your prose. Register for the series or any workshop of interest to you.

Intended Audience: Divinity School Students as well as other graduate and professional school students in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Part 2: (Sept. 21) Literature Synthesis. A literature synthesis is where you articulate new ideas or principles based on your analysis of multiple sources. Synthesizing your literature is a critical skill in academic writing. However, synthesis can be challenging as you work to find connections between various sources and to articulate general principles from a number of authorities. Join us for this interactive workshop where you will learn how to synthesize your wealth of sources and avoid unconnected analyses. You will leave this workshop understanding how to enhance the quality of your written work by connecting the dots - synthesizing the sources you discuss.
