Event Description

Are you returning to academia after a break? Is one of your goals this year to improve your academic writing? If so, we invite you to start the semester strong by attending the GWL’s four-part series on Honing Your Academic Writing Skills. In this series, we will cover: critically reading scholarly works and effectively taking notes; synthesizing your scholarly research; building your argument; and trimming and clarifying your prose. Register for the series or any workshop of interest to you.

Intended Audience: Divinity School Students as well as other graduate and professional school students in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Part 3: (Sept. 28) Building Your Argument. Carefully and effectively presenting an argument is a key component of academic writing. In this interactive workshop, you will learn how to: structure an argument; utilize persuasive writing techniques; and rebut opposing arguments. Come prepared to engage in activities applying the skills and techniques we discuss. After this workshop, you will understand how to effectively present evidence in support of your position.
