ATW: Teaching First-Generation and Non-Traditional Students

Are you interested in learning how to make the classroom more inclusive for first generation and non-traditional college students? In this workshop, we will explore approaches to inclusive teaching, focusing on experiences of this diverse and growing student population. We will supplement a discussion of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with stories from first-generation, low-income, and non-traditional students, as well as literature-supported strategies to enhance the learning experience for these students. Better understanding the experiences of first generation and non-traditional students will help us develop a set of best practices for creating an educational environment designed for all students to succeed.
