Michelle Johnson
Graduate School Student
BA in History and Africana Studies from Brown University
Michelle Johnson is a PhD candidate in the history and African American studies departments here at Yale and is returning in her second year as a McDougal Graduate Teaching Fellow. Her work is on the long civil rights movement in Chicago and the urban North, with a specific focus on the role of women in organizing and activism during these movements.
She comes to the Poorvu Center with a dedication to teaching and belief that it is her duty to pay it forward after having countless amazing teachers and mentors throughout her life. She is especially interested in making the classroom a more empathetic and compassionate space, creating equitable learning environments, and (hopefully) having a lot of fun.
