Rebecca Traber is a PhD candidate in political science, focusing on political theory. Her research centers on the conditions necessary for successful democratic deliberation, particularly in the context of identity politics based social movements. She earned her BA at Reed College, in Portland, Oregon. Her commitment to teaching and pedagogy is an extension of her research and she strives to create an evidence-based and theoretically grounded teaching practice. She has taught at both the college and high school level. Her work with the Texas Debate Collective, a non-profit devoted to providing excellent debate education to low-income and under-served students, has grounded her teaching in a commitment to equity in education and the belief that any student can develop their capacity for robust critical thinking. Rebecca hopes to help fellow graduate students develop as inclusive teachers who are capable of guiding their students through rigorous thought.
