Event Description

Effective mentorship is an often under-explored facet of instruction. Graduate students and young faculty are especially uniquely positioned to serve as mentors to undergraduates, both in the classroom and beyond. How can we build effective mentoring relationships with the undergraduate students we teach? In this workshop, we will discuss recent research on mentoring as well as concrete tools to build a successful mentor-mentee relationship built on strong communication. We will also analyze different ways of providing intellectual, professional, and social support to your mentees, and how this relationship can be mutually beneficial for your mentee and yourself. The content of this workshop will be relevant for graduates in all disciplines. For more information, contact Emma Carley, emma.carley@yale.edu [2] or Cat Slowik, catherine.slowik@yale.edu [3].

Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the requirements for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP). They do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC. For a refresher on key pedagogical terms you may have encountered in the Fundamentals or the CIRTL MOOC, please refer to our glossary: tinyurl.com/PedagogicalGlossary.

This workshop will be held online via Zoom.
