Fundamentals of Teaching Physics (4 Sessions - 9/2, 8, 9, & 15)

This four-part workshop series is designed to equip new physics graduate students with practical, real-world teaching strategies that they can apply directly in the classroom and beyond. Focusing on scenarios that they will encounter in their teaching careers, the series covers topics such as equitable teaching practices, grading, and fostering active learning environments. Through hands-on microteaching activities, students will practice real-world teaching scenarios, such as leading office hours, study halls, and lab lectures. The workshops will provide concrete strategies for engaging students, promoting metacognition, and implementing active learning in both small-group and large-group settings. By the end of this series, participants will have gained valuable insights and practical tools to navigate common teaching challenges and feel confident in their ability to effectively support their students.
