Are you interested in learning how to make the classroom more inclusive for first generation and low-income college students? In this workshop, we will explore approaches to equitable teaching, focusing on experiences of this diverse and growing student population. We will supplement a discussion of equitable teaching practices in the context of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with stories from first-generation and low-income students, as well as literature-supported strategies to enhance the learning experience for these students. Further, we will discuss the hidden curriculum in higher education as well as strategies and best practices to make more accessible classrooms where all students can succeed.
