The STEM Evaluation Program is a field leader in systems-based evaluation of STEM education initiatives. We aim to contribute to the national dialogue on evidence-based education by contributing to large-scale grant-funded evaluation initiatives. Our team embraces interdisciplinary, collaborative, and systems-based approaches to evaluation. As an active part of the Yale Center for Teaching and Learning, we are dedicated to training early career researchers through postdocs, internships, and undergraduate work-study opportunities.
Key projects include evaluating the NSF National Academies Summer Institutes on Undergraduate Education and HHMI SEA-PHAGES program. Through these and other efforts, we aim to:
1) Advance systems based evaluation methods
2) Develop evidence to support and inform college STEM education
3) Foster a culture of evaluation and evidence based education
4) Create key infrastructure
Our goal is to lead a sustainable program of education research and evaluation through collaboration and consultation. A central focus is supporting the National Academies Summer Institutes on Undergraduate STEM Education, sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. We do so by investigating a range of elements, including instruction, learning, cognition, and program evaluation.
b. Disseminate our findings and methods to academic communities through publications and conferences.
b. Communicate our education research findings to the Yale and Summer Institute communities through workshops, consultation services, conferences, and reports.
c. Develop future evaluators and social scientists by mentoring early career researchers and undergraduate students.
b. Foster collaborations with key evaluation and STEM education experts.
