ATW: Trauma Informed Teaching

Event Description

How can we support our students in moments of personal and shared trauma which may interfere with their learning? How do we recognize a traumatic response when it does appear, and what can we do to help? In this workshop, we explore literature on trauma and trauma-informed education, discuss how to responsibly and safely facilitate student conversations around potentially triggering content, and think about the ways trauma-informed teaching should be one of the foundations for creating and maintaining a safe, effective, and productive classroom. This workshop will include difficult and potentially triggering conversations, but your active participation in these conversations is not mandatory, and we ask that you only participate to the extent that you feel comfortable. If you have any questions or concerns, we strongly encourage you to reach out to us at Evelyne Koubkova (evelyne.koubkova@yale.edu) and Ziming Liu (ziming.liu@yale.edu).… . This workshop will be held in person… . . ATWs are designed as deeper dives into a given topic, and are particularly appropriate for participants with previous experience. If you haven’t considered this topic before, you might consider taking “Mental Health in the Classroom” before attending, but this is not required. — Event Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2261787
