Event Description

This workshop will introduce the genre of the diversity statement and offer strategies on how to translate your commitment and service to fostering diversity into this written document. We will address: what is a diversity statement? What differentiates it from a personal statement and teaching statement? What might a search committee consider while evaluating an application?  The diversity statement is about how you relate to others within your research, teaching, and broader community. Your identity is part of that, but so is your behavior and mindset. We will offer clear definitions, lead reflective activities, and provide examples from successful applications to give you concrete steps toward writing an honest and effective statement.
