Event Description

Gender is an essential part of both student and instructor identity. In this Intermediate Teaching Workshop: Gender in the Classroom, we will discuss the fundamentals of gender dynamics of the classroom, define key issues, and interrogate how we can make our classrooms inclusive and equitable spaces for students of all genders and presentations. Drawing on contemporary scholarship of teaching and learning, we will investigate our own roles and identities as instructors. We will then identify teaching practices and actions we can implement to support student belonging. This Intermediate Teaching Workshop is open to all participants looking to build knowledge and experience thinking about pedagogical approaches to gender in the classroom, or in preparation for the Advanced Teaching Workshop on Gender in the Classroom.

Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the requirements for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP). They do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC. For a refresher on key pedagogical terms you may have encountered in the Fundamentals or the CIRTL MOOC, please refer to our glossary: tinyurl.com/PedagogicalGlossary.

This workshop will be held in person.
