Event Description

Who speaks in the classroom, and whose voices are heard? How do power relations between professors, TFs, and students shape our experiences of teaching and learning? Beginning from the premise that classrooms are not politically “neutral” spaces, this workshop aims to introduce participants to resources for analyzing the stakes of and navigating the myriad political conflicts that shape both our immediate classrooms and wider debates about the politics of higher education. We will reflect on our own roles and responsibilities as instructors in creating welcoming and productive classroom environments and discuss the considerations that shape the extent to which we share our personal political commitments in our teaching. For more information, or if you have questions in advance, please contact Cody Limber (cody.limber@yale.edu) or Joy Wang (joy.wang@yale.edu).

Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC.

This workshop will be held on Zoom.
