ITW: Text, Graph, Image, Model: Moving Between Media in the Classroom

Event Description

In an increasingly turbulent technological and cultural landscape, how can we teach students to be critical and literate in their engagement with multiple forms of media? In this workshop, you will learn to instill critical thinking about various sources of information–from the graph to the painting, from the model to the text–promoting student engagement while contributing to larger learning goals. This workshop will draw on research from cognitive theory as well as media studies, while also prioritizing accessibility and active engagement in the classroom. Participants will leave the workshop with a rich framework for including different materials in their class, along with the pedagogical tools to help students interpret, engage, and evaluate these materials. For more information, please contact Gina Marie Hurley (gina.hurley@yale.edu) and Nathan Smith (nathan.smith@yale.edu).… . Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the requirements for the CCTP. They do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC… . . For a refresher on key pedagogical terms you may have encountered in the Fundamentals or the CIRTL MOOC, please refer to our glossary: tinyurl.com/PedagogicalGlossary. — Event Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2146950
