Student Course Evaluations

Charles Bailyn
February 4, 2019

Charles Bailyn, the A. Bartlett Giamatti Professor of Astronomy, Astrophysics and Physics and Head of Benjamin Franklin College, will host a Teaching and Learning Lunch on Wednesday, February 6 at noon in the Poorvu Center Room 120A.

The theme of the lunch, Responding to Student Course Evaluations: A Case Study, will explore the process and factors involved in responding to teaching evaluations. Professor Bailyn has chaired the Yale College Teaching and Learning Committee and has worked to improve the course evaluation system at Yale for nearly two decades.

In 2002, Dr. Bailyn wrote, “pointed out that after the semester many students frequently, perhaps even compulsively, go online to see if their grades are available. So they suggested that we might tie the availability of online grades to the completion of an online course evaluation.”

Look for a short update on Thursday.
