Event Description

How do we prioritize mental health in the classroom? In this workshop, we will engage with theoretical and practical approaches to supporting student mental health in the classroom. When learning environments are structured with the assumption that learners are able-bodied, neurotypical, and without mental health challenges, they create additional stress and challenges for students. Participants will explore myriad ways that instructors across the disciplines can create compassionate and inclusive classrooms that serve all students and will practice redesigning course modules for accessibility and equity. We will additionally explore the responsibilities and limitations of instructors in dealing with mental health emergencies. Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of inclusive teaching strategies and develop skills to implement them effectively. We will be providing all the necessary resources, such as mental health services and support networks, for both undergraduate and graduate students. Please contact Destiny Treloar (destiny.treloar) and Siria Gámez (siria.gamez@yale.edu) with any questions or accessibility needs.
