ATW: Equitable Assessments and Alternative Grading Systems

Event Description

Why do we grade? What kinds of assessments actually support student learning equitably? In this workshop, we will explore contemporary debates about grading, discuss the power and limitations of instructors within academic institutions, and learn about different approaches to assessment. Attendees will practice designing their own assessments to align with the course goals and their pedagogical values, and are encouraged to come to the session with questions about actual courses they may be designing. For more information, contact Libby O’Neil (libby.oneil@yale.edu) or Zion Perry (zion.perry@yale.edu).… . This workshop will be held in person… . . Please note: Advanced Teaching Workshops (ATWs) count toward the requirements for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP). ATWs are designed as deeper dives into a given topic, and are especially appropriate for participants with prior experience. If you are new to the subject matter, you may be more comfortable starting with a closely related ITW, like “Rubrics and Grading,” but this is not required. — Event Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2261786
