ITW: Religion in the Classroom

Event Description

How and when do we discuss religion and spiritual beliefs in the classroom? This workshop focuses on the explicit and implicit role religion and culture play in the classroom, for individual students and for the classroom environment. Participants will be invited to: consider the particularities of how their discipline approaches issues of religion and culture; reflect on how to contextualize these discussions in order to achieve course learning goals; and discuss how to create a learning environment that empowers students to discuss their personal beliefs while maintaining space and respect for those of their colleagues. For questions, please contact Taylor Dover (taylor.dover@yale.edu) or Nathan Smith (nathan.smith@yale.edu).… . This workshop will be held online… . . Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the requirements for the CCTP. They do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC.
