Have you ever wondered about how the ways our brains work interact with the ways in which we learn? Do you wish that you knew more about the science of learning so you can be a better teacher? Cognitive psychology and other fields provide evidence that constantly refines and improves our understanding of how learners absorb and process information. We can leverage this research to implement strategies to make learning easier. In this two-part workshop, we will provide an overview of evidence-based cognitive theory (how people learn) and discuss its application to our teaching (how we can help students to learn). Please note: Advanced Teaching Workshops (ATWs) count toward the requirements for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP). ATWs are designed as deeper dives into a given topic, and are especially appropriate for participants with prior experience in our programming.
