Event Description

In this workshop, we will discuss the role of race, ethnicity, and culture in the classroom, addressing how student and instructor backgrounds shape the classroom environment and its associated power dynamics. We will consider how social and academic norms enter into the classroom, as well as the role that we, as instructors, play in establishing a healthy and generative classroom environment. Join us to reflect on the role of race, ethnicity, and culture in classrooms across the disciplines, learn from your peers, and share questions and concerns you have about how these topics affect our pedagogical approaches. Please note this workshop is complementary to “Race, Ethnicity, and Culture: Course Content and Lesson Planning,” scheduled on April 7th. We encourage you to attend both workshops as they offer distinct, but interrelated approaches to this topic. This workshop fulfills the diversity and inclusion requirement for the CCTP. For more information, please contact malena.rice@yale.edu or michelle.johnson@yale.edu. This workshop will be held online via Zoom.
