Discussing topics that are very personal to students, which may relate to identity, religious or political beliefs, inequity, etc., can be challenging for instructors to discuss, and often come up in STEM classes. Please join us a for a hands-on workshop in which participants will work together to develop strategies for integrating sensitive topics into our courses. Come with a topic or multiple topics that you would like to discuss with your class but may not feel comfortable or fully prepared. We will work as group to think about how to set a tone for these discussions- what can you do at the beginning of the semester or class to help students navigate the discussion and to help you manage the conversation? We will allot time for small groups to focus on one specific topic to develop a plan for facilitating that discussion.
