Microteaching: Give a Teaching Demo and Get Some Feedback!

Audience

Graduate & Professional Students, Postdoctoral Fellows

Event Time

Monday, October 28, 2024 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Location of Event:

Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, 301 York St, room 120C

Event Description

With the term halfway over, the Poorvu Center is offering a new program to give graduate and postdoctoral instructors the chance to try out elements of their teaching practice at a “micro” scale before bringing them to their students in the classroom. Whether you’re a first-time TF or a returning PTAI, we invite you to join us to experiment with new techniques and get feedback from your peers in a collaborative, interdisciplinary session. We’ll open with a brief discussion of your goals for teaching this semester, then jump into your teaching demonstrations. We ask participants to come to the session with a prepared 5-minute “micro-lesson” they wish to share, anything from a course introduction to the discussion of a new policy to an active learning activity, and we’ll exchange feedback and encouragement after each of these. This will be a constructive and supportive environment where we hope you can feel free to experiment with new formats and get inspiration from your peers’ suggestions and presentations. Please feel free to reach out to Zion Perry (zion.perry@yale.edu) or Audrey Holt (audrey.holt@yale.edu) with any questions.
