Teaching & Learning Discussion: Teaching Equitable Collaboration as a Skill

Event Description

Collaboration is a necessary part of many courses and a key skill across the disciplines. However, it can often be a source of conflict between students, and it is not always clear how to ensure that responsibilities and ownership will be distributed equitably among group members. This discussion will support instructors in thinking about various strategies for teaching equitable collaboration, whether through implicit modeling of best practices or through explicit instruction. Our conversation will begin with insights from Mansi Bajaj, Lector of Hindi, and Marynel Vázquez, Assistant Professor of Computer Science. They will share their own thoughts and pedagogical practices and then invite others into the conversation. Participants are encouraged to come ready to contribute their own questions, challenges, and variations on practices related to teaching collaboration as a skill. Refreshments will be provided that participants can eat during the session or take away–whatever feels most comfortable. We are committed to hosting inclusive and accessible events that allow all participants to fully engage. Please contact us at faculty.teaching@yale.edu if there are ways we can support accommodations, be aware of any dietary restrictions, or for questions about inclusion — Event Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2161788
