Effectively Reading and Analyzing Case Law
Event Description
Understanding how to read, analyze, and brief case law is critical for law students and other graduates doing legal research. In this interactive workshop, you will learn how to analyze and brief case law using the IRAC format (Issue, Rule, Application, and Conclusion). Using actual case law, you will learn how to identify the issue(s) before the court and the applicable legal rule(s) affecting the case. You will also practice summarizing the court’s application of the rule to the facts of the case and the case holding. At the end of this workshop, you will have the basic framework for analyzing even the most complex cases–perfect for your research needs and for your future career!
