Micah Siegel
Micah Siegel is a PhD candidate in the Department of English, specializing in late 19th- and early 20th-century fiction. Her dissertation examines how people thought about the idea of plot in relation to the literary marketplace at the turn of the 20th century, drawing on materials like authors’ instructional manuals, self-proclaimed “novels without plots” (both modernist and middlebrow), and Golden Age detective fiction.
In addition to teaching ENGL 114 and 115 classes on the mystery genre and the intersection of music and literature, Micah has been a teaching fellow for lectures on political fiction, Gothic literature, and queer modernist writing, as well as the English department’s senior essay seminar. She is excited to be working with the Poorvu Center this year and looks forward to helping others create equitable, supportive classroom spaces.
