Sarah Ohashi
Sarah is a fourth year PhD student in the Immunobiology department. Her research focuses on neuroimmunology, with a particular interest in the role of the immune system in neuroinflammatory diseases such as stroke. As a McDougal Graduate Teaching Fellow, Sarah is interested in making STEM classrooms more equitable and promoting active learning strategies in traditionally lecture-based courses.
Sarah has served as a teaching fellow for undergraduate biology courses at Carleton College and Yale University. She is also dedicated to making science accessible to the non-academic community, and serves as the co-chair to the Immunobiology department’s Working Group for Diversity and Inclusion Outreach committee. Her work in outreach is focused around teaching vaccine biology to middle and high school students, and developing “Day of Immunology”, an annual event to teach high school students in the New Haven community about the immune system, connect them with researchers at Yale, and inspire them to pursue careers in biomedical science.
