Poorvu Center Classrooms

Request to teach in one of our classrooms around campus.

The Poorvu Center features several spaces designed to accommodate courses - especially courses that prioritize student engagement, flexibility, and small group work. With the exception of the TEAL classroom, instructors from FAS and all professional schools are invited to request teaching space in all the rooms we manage.

Listed below are the classrooms and learning spaces available to instructors as well as more information on the request and approval process.

Information About the Request and Approval Process

  • Courses selected to be held in the Poorvu Center will benefit from early assignment with ample lead time to design their course and consult with Poorvu Center experts.
  • We will work with instructors to ensure that the course activities implemented during your semester in the Poorvu Center can be translated into most other classrooms at Yale.

  • The Poorvu Center provides technical support for all courses taught at the Poorvu Center and Poorvu North.
  • Watson and TEAL are supported by IT Classroom Technology Services. Instructors teaching in those rooms will need to arrange technical support with the IT Classroom Technology Services team.
  • You are expected to bring your own technological equipment when utilizing Poorvu Center rooms (e.g. Mac laptop adaptors, presentation advancers/clickers, power adapters).

  • July 15: Requests are due.
  • August 10: The Poorvu Center will notify instructors of approved assignments.

Note: Requests received after July 15 will be considered in the order in which they are received.

Note: Requests received after August 20 may not be placed in time for the start of classes.

  • Before Thanksgiving break: Requests are due.
  • December 15: The Poorvu Center will notify instructors of approved assignments.

Note: Requests received after December 15 will be considered in the order in which they are received.

Note: Requests received after the winter recess may not be placed in time for the start of classes.

  • Work with the Poorvu Center team on elements of course design and assessment.
  • Involve developing a pedagogical model or approach that can be replicated in other courses.
  • Leverage the space design by engaging students in active learning and/or thoughtful use of technology.
  • Capitalize on the centrality and visibility of the Poorvu Center to showcase excellent teaching practices.
