Canvas @ Yale is the University’s learning management system (LMS). Canvas provides instructors an online space to organize and present their course content, enabling them to create digital learning experiences for their students in support of in-person, remote and blended course offerings. Canvas @ Yale is primarily used for official courses offered through the University Registrar’s Office, which generates between 2300-2500 courses each term.

Canvas Data & Academic Integrity
The Canvas learning management system was designed to support teaching and learning, not to detect academic dishonesty.
The Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning has fielded an increase in requests for Canvas data logs to monitor student activity during online assessments. However, Canvas activity log data may be unreliable as evidence of specific behaviors during defined time periods.

The Educational & Engagement Technology Team
The Educational & Engagement Technology team manages and supports Canvas, the University’s learning management system, all external applications that integrate with Canvas, as well as Yale Connect, the campus engagement platform for the University. We partner with ITS, the University Registrar’s Office, professional school registrars, the University Library, Office of the General Counsel, University Life, Yale College Student Affairs, Yale’s cultural centers, and a network of over 200 distributed support staff and administrators from across the University.
