Adam DeSchriver

Graduate Writing Lab Fellow
Department: Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations & Religious Studies

Adam DeSchriver is a second-year PhD student in the departments of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (Classical Near East specialization) and Religious Studies (Islamic Studies subfield). He researches and writes about the social, intellectual, and religious histories of the late ancient and medieval Middle East, with specific attention to the beginnings of Islam in the seventh century and the Arabic historiographical tradition that represented those beginnings in writing starting in the eighth and ninth centuries. He holds an MA in Divinity/Religious Studies from the University of Chicago, an MA in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a BA in Religious Studies from the University of Rochester, and a BM in Applied Music (Clarinet) from the Eastman School of Music. Equally at home in both detail-oriented philological work and more wide-ranging theoretical discussions, writing sessions with Adam can be as big picture or nitty-gritty as you wish; what matters most to him is that the session be as beneficial to you as possible.
