Geoffrey Canales is the Assistant Director of Disability & Neurodiversity for the Office of Educational Opportunity in the Poorvu Center at Yale University. In his role, Geoffrey leads the Disability Peer Mentorship program, which supports students in Yale College and Graduate schools by connecting them with mentors to help navigate Yale with a disability, neurodivergence, chronic illness, etc.
He is also a learning specialist, and in this capacity, he supports students with more intensive learning needs in the areas of learning skills and executive functions but is also at a nexus of managing other challenges like mental health or conditions to help get them on a path of success. Geoffrey’s team focuses on programming and establishing a community for disabled, neurodivergent, chronically ill students, and more to promote belonging at Yale.
Before Yale, Geoffrey worked in consultation and as a clinician for individuals on the autism spectrum across Connecticut. Geoffrey graduated from Columbia University with a Masterís of Science in social work.
