Maria Ma is a Graduate Assistant Director at the Yale College Writer Center and a PhD candidate in Classical Philology. Maria’s dissertation research examines the representation of marine animals in zoological literature of the Roman Empire, and positions them at the intersection of biological inquiry, vying literary authorities, and social change. With the Writing Center, she facilitates teaching training and writing workshops, manages social media and outreach, and provides writing tutoring to undergraduates of all disciplines. She has a particular interest in second-language pedagogy and continuously works to create inclusive, student-centered learning environments across the diverse settings in which she has taught, from kindergarten to non-traditional classrooms.
In her spare time, Maria can be found making art, playing music in a band, and expanding her network of feline acquaintances.
