Kirsty Scott

McDougal Graduate Teaching Fellow
Physics

Kirsty works as a McDougal Teaching Fellow at the Poorvu Center. She works with the other fellows developing and running teaching development workshops for fellow graduate students and postdocs. Kirsty is passionate about making STEM education more accessible and equitable, especially at the foundational level. Kirsty has taught several physics courses as a teaching fellow at Yale since 2020 and previously worked as a learning assistant for physics courses at Florida State University. She also tutored English through the Student Accessibility Services Office at Indian River State College and high school calculus.

Kirsty is a physics PhD candidate in the da Silva Neto Lab in the Department of Physics. She studies unconventional superconductors using a variety of spectroscopic techniques, primarily Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Spectroscopy (STM/S) and Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS).

Outside of work, Kirsty enjoys running, reading, and painting. Her favorite New Haven activity is kayaking in, or strolling along the Mill River.
