Lauren Gonzalez

Assistant Director of Scientific Communication
I support scientific writing, workshops and peer-review groups for STEM writers, and giving and receiving feedback.

Lauren is the Assistant Director of Scientific Communication in the Poorvu Center’s Graduate Writing Lab. In this role, she supports graduate writers in effectively communicating their research by managing workshops and peer-review groups led by GWL Fellows, teaching writing workshops in graduate courses, and working with writers one-on-one in consultations. She teaches about all kinds of communication projects, but especially loves working with writers on fellowships and scientific presentations. She has been at Yale since 2015, and joined the Poorvu Center in her current role in 2023.

Before joining the Poorvu Center, Lauren’s work focused on molecular biology research and mentoring graduate, postdoctoral, and faculty researchers through grant and manuscript writing. She also facilitated discussion programs and workshops on equity in STEM research and adapting artistic approaches to scientific inquiry. She is originally from California, received her PhD in Genetics from Yale in 2021, and was a Research Development Fellow in the Greco and Reinke labs at Yale from 2021-2023.

When she’s not at work, Lauren spends most of her time experimenting with new recipes, practicing yoga, and striving to learn German. Her favorite thing to do in New Haven is attending shows at the Repertory Theatre.
