Niv Karthikeyan is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the program of History of Science & Medicine, and the Ethnicity, Race & Migration certificate program. Her work focuses on gendered and racialized histories of pain, chronic illness and medical violence, particularly for South Asian American women. Prior to graduate school, Niv graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science and History from Caltech and worked in community memory-work at the South Asian American Digital Archive.
She is currently learning how to be a care-full teacher through her work with the Access Pedagogy Lab and the Poorvu Center, and is experimenting, specifically, with what collective access can look like in the space of the college classroom. It is giving her a lot of joy.
