Senior Director, Educational & Engagement Technology
I support Yale's secure use of technology used in teaching, learning and community engagement.

Pilar Abuin is the Senior Director of Educational Technology in the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning at Yale University. Her team supports and owns Canvas and many of the external applications that extend the functionality of Canvas through integration. Their role is to engage with faculty and staff to support and better understand how Canvas, and the Learning Management System ecosystem, is and can be used at Yale through partnerships with the University Registrar’s office and ITS.  Areas of particular interest include support for Accessibility,  and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through intentional uses of educational technology in teaching, and the field of data analytics and learning insights through careful consideration of what questions we would want to begin to ask of teaching and learning data. Pilar has been at Yale since January 2014.

Before Yale, Pilar worked at New York University and Columbia University, always in support of the intentional use of educational technology in teaching. Pilar earned her Master of Arts in Instructional Technology and Media from Columbia University’s Teachers College, and received her Bachelor of Art from Columbia University, where she studied Computer Science and Art History.
