Sakura Oyama

Sakura is an 8th year MD/PhD student in anthropology. She completed her PhD in 2024 and is now in her final year of clinical training. Her dissertation research applied life history theory to characterize relationships between cardiometabolic and reproductive health in Samoan women. Before coming to Yale, Sakura completed her undergraduate degree in anthropology and biology from Washington University in Saint Louis. After graduating from college, she studied at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge scholar and earned an MPhil in applied biological anthropology. Sakura has experience with all types of academic writing - from journal articles to grant and fellowship applications (NSF DDRIG, NIH F30, Wenner-Gren). She is happy to assist medical students and graduate students in the social sciences and sciences in any stage of the writing process.
