Thom Stylinski is a writer, director and editor. As Senior Creative Director at the Poorvu Center, Thom partners with faculty to transform their classroom material into compelling video content for online programs. This process often results in a remix of an existing course, employing techniques from fiction film, documentary, YouTube, TikTok, etc. Thom is interested in how edits to faculty performance, lesson structure and video aesthetics can have a significant effect on a learner’s engagement.
In the past at Yale Thom wrote, directed and edited narrative pieces such as the freshman orientation video / surreal comedy You, Your Safety And You! and a documentary on an experimental performance of Scriabin’s Prometheus.
Thom wrote, co-edited, and voice acted in NUTS!, a documentary about a conman in the early 20th century, which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, winning the Special Jury Award for Editing.
