Faculty Bulldog Days

Yale faculty engage new ideas and teaching practices by observing colleagues’ classes.

Overview

Jennifer Frederick, Associate Provost for Academic Initiatives, invites Yale faculty to join Faculty Bulldog Days. This initiative encourages opening classes to peers, enhancing engagement and showcasing our community’s expertise. Explore new disciplines, observe classes across campus, and consider adapting methods for your own teaching. We encourage participants and hosts to discuss Yale’s teaching practices. If you haven’t taught in front of peers before, now is a great time to start!

Faculty Bulldog Days is a celebration of what a university should be. Visiting my colleagues’ classes makes me feel like a student again. And I have opened up my classroom for the same reason: I love to share what I do with others.

How to Participate

Over the years, this popular Poorvu Center program has seen a significant increase in open classrooms, thanks to your colleagues. To participate and sign up to observe a class, use the Sched application, which lets you view and select from available classes. We use Sched as the registration platform, as it simplifies the process of selecting classes and making changes to your schedule. Faculty hosts can view the list of registrants, and share course materials or updates with you. Instructions for Sched are provided below.

Next steps:

  • Go to the Faculty Bulldog Days event in Sched; Event password: FBD
  • Please register in Sched, preferably with your Yale email. Creating an account allows you to easily make, view, and change your course selections.
  • Choose among courses, then review your choices under “My Schedule.” (Further instructions provided within Sched.)
  • Be sure to register for the Closing Reception.
