Intermediate and Advanced Teaching Workshops

Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) and Advanced Teaching Workshops (ATWs) are held throughout the year to help postdoctoral and teaching fellows gain the skills they need to make the transition to faculty positions.

Participants can self-select into the workshops they feel most comfortable joining. ITWs and ATWs both count toward training requirements for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP)

As part of the CCTP requirements, participants are required to take at least two Advanced Teaching Workshops. However, they can take as many as they wish.*

In addition to ITWs and ATWs, the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) Programs offer a range of resources and workshops designed to enhance teaching skills, promote inclusive practices, and support the career development of future faculty. Through CIRTL, participants gain access to a national network of educators dedicated to improving the quality of teaching in higher education. Special permission is required to count CIRTL workshops toward the CCTP.

*Please note that the certificate requirements were revised in Fall 2022. If you began working toward your certificate before Fall 2022, any Advanced Teaching Workshops you completed count toward this requirement.

Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs)

Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the CCTP and do not presuppose previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics covered in the Fundamentals of Teaching workshops.

Advanced Teaching Workshops (ATWs)

Advanced Teaching Workshops (ATWs) count toward the CCTP and are designed to help participants take deeper dives into particular topics or prepare for a wide variety of positions after their time at Yale. Some ATWs are part of the larger Academic Job Search series. It is recommended that participants have completed the Fundamentals of Teaching series or equivalent prior to participating in ATWs.

Linked ITW-ATW Workshops

Linked Intermediate (ITW) and Advanced (ATW) Teaching Workshops count toward the CCTP and are designed as sustained explorations of specialist topics, beginning at the intermediate level and proceeding into more advanced applications thereof.

Please see our event calendar for upcoming ITWs and ATWs.
